Tutorial 1: DYC Application - Blank Cubes



Click "Customize this design".

For a New User: A window will appear asking you to fill up the fields to create an account. This is the same as clicking on “Register” on the top right portion of the website. Registration is FREE!

If you already have an account, just type in Email/Username and Password to log-in. Typing in the same information on the top right portion of the site will also give you access to your account.


Select any one of the four proposed Cube formats. You can choose between the Cube 222 Flat, Cube 333 Flat, Cube 222 Pillow and Cube 333 Pillow. Take note that you can switch between cube formats anytime during Design and Play.



Add a white or colored frame. By selecting any of the two options, frames will be applied on all the 6 faces of the cube. Clicking on No Frame will remove this option. Frame option can be changed anytime during Design.      



Click "Customize this design" to start designing your cube.

a. Add pictures or designs. This can be done in two ways:

1. Drag and Drop

Drag an image or design and Drop it on the area labeled “DROP HERE” to manually adjust it to fit the face frame.

Drop image on area labeled “AUTO FIT” (center) to automatically fit it to the face frame.

2. Click the image icon to add images.


b. Add Texts and Shapes

Click on the Text icon to add letters, words or phrases.   

The Shape icon is used to add basic shapes.


The label at the bottom of each face frame indicates the position of your images in the cube.


Clicking on an Image, Text or Shape will display the following icons:

a. Delete

b. Resize

c. Turn

d. Bringforward

e. Bringbackward

f. Select Color (text and shapes)

Double-click on text to replace it.


Clicking on "PLAY" will exit you from the DESIGN option. In Play, you will have fun shuffling, turning and solving your customized cube. Turn any layer of the Cube by clicking on it and dragging towards your desired direction.

Play icons:

a. Shuffle: This icon scrambles your cube.

b. Revert: This button will reverse all the moves made.

c. Solve: Use this button to solve the cube automatically (centers might not be properly oriented sometimes, this will be resolved in the next version).

d. Cubes: clicking on any cube allows you to switch between cube formats even during Play. Just take note that clicking on the cubes will reset any shuffled cube back to its original solved position.


Click on the shopping cart to add your cube to your buying list.

The Shopping Cart button shows the total price of your cube (options included). 

Tutorial 2: DYC Application - Pre-made Cubes



Choose a design by clicking on the DESIGNS drop down menu to show cube collections in Design, Fun, Game and Unclassified categories. Clicking on a design will create a copy of the cube you like in “My private gallery”.



Purchase the cube by clicking on the shopping cart, then proceed with payment.



Click "Customize this design" to re-design the pre-made cube.

a.  Add/Edit pictures or designs. This can be done in two ways:

1. Drag and Drop

Drag an image or design and Drop it on the area labeled “DROP HERE” to manually adjust it to fit the face frame.

Can I delete my account?

Contact Us by email to request for cancellation or deletion of your account.  Once your account is cancelled or deleted, your private gallery will be removed from our website along with your account.

Do I have to register?

You can explore our site, play with the cubes and appreciate the designs in the gallery but creating an account will allow you to customize the design of a cube, upload images, save your design and place an order to start your own personal collection.

How can I change my account information (email address and password)?

Log-in to your account, move cursor over the username and click “My Profile”. 

Go to “Account Details”, type in the information you may want to change, then click "Update". 

How do I create an account?

It’s easy! On the top right of the page, click “Register”. 

Fill-up the required fields: username, your email address and password, and you are good to go.

What cubes are you using?

Last 17 October 2015, Design Your Cube has launched an addition to the line of Rubik’s products called the “Rubik’s Photo Cube”. 

These cubes have been specially made by Rubik’s to match DYC’s requirements and strict standards that allow direct printing of photo quality images on the cube’s surface with very minimal image distortion. The Rubik’s Photo cubes use genuine Rubik’s mechanisms that allows smooth turns.

We propose two of the most popular cube formats: the Rubik’s 3x3 and the 2x2 (also known as the Pocket or mini cube). 

Who is DYC?

Design Your Cube is a French-based company composed of a team of Graphics designers who has been developing special printing solution for puzzle cubes; and, a team of Concept designers offering web solutions by harnessing the latest in advanced technology available today.

Can everyone see and buy my design?

There is an option to make your design Public, where anyone will have permission to view and access your saved design in the Store and gallery, and then even buy them afterwards.

Or, you can just leave them Private (by default), restricting the view and use of your design only to yourself.  

Take note that once a design is rendered Public, images and design will not disappear from your account.

Can I share my design with everyone?

Yes, you just have to click on the Share icon   to make your design visible to the public and the Lock icon   to make it private again. 

Once public, everyone can now view and even buy your cube. But nobody can alter the original saved design.

Can I use any image, even if I don’t own the copyright?

You may use any image, as long as it does not fall in any one of these categories:

  • Any threatening, obscene, pornographic or profane material or any other material that could give rise to any civil or criminal liability under applicable law.
  • Any material that could infringe rights of privacy, publicity or copyrights without the permission of the owner of these rights and the persons (or their parents or legal guardians, where applicable) who are shown in the material.
  • Any material coming from a fictitious address.

DYC will not be held responsible for the pictures uploaded by the users of this site, but reserves the right to delete, move or edit any submitted material corresponding to the mentioned categories. 

How can I create my Cube?

How can I save a design or a picture?

The pictures and the designs are SAVED AUTOMATICALLY

Each time you make changes on your cube, a “design saved” message will appear on top of the application. 

How do I add an image on my cube?

There are two ways to do it:

  1. Click on the "picture icon"  and browse for your image, select, then click “open”.  Watch a video of this tutorial on YouTube.

2.  Or, simply open the image source folder on your computer, drag and drop the picture on any of the faces. Watch a video of this tutorial on YouTube

How will my cube look like once printed?

On the Left is a screenshot of an example of a customized cube.

On the Right is the real cube showing the resulting output of the printed images.

I clicked the “Solve” button, but page takes time to load.

Factors such as internet speed, type of internet connection, the type of browser and the number of moves required to solve the cube usually affects the loading progress of the Solver program.

I created my design on a Cube 2 FLAT but now I prefer the Cube 3 FLAT. Will i lose my design if i switch cubes?

The type of cube you are using can be changed any time by clicking on any cube format on the upper left side of the application.  Your design will remain intact even when the cube format has been changed. 

I don’t know how to design a cube. Can you help me?

DYC prepared some tutorials to help guide you through. We have created videos and written instructions that will show you how to design your own cube.

Is it possible to show my creation to my friends?

You can make it public, so your friends can view and admire your design. 

Or, you can take a screenshot by hovering your mouse over the Settings icon, and then clicking on “Screenshot”. This will open a preview of your cube in a new tab. Save it, then share it.

My children played with my cube and now it's shuffled, how can I solve it?

DYC developed a new, easy and educational way to solve the cube using the Rotation Grid.

There is a tab "Play", what does it mean?

The design application offers you two options: customize your cube in Edit and amuse yourself in Play. Click on the Play tab to enter Play mode. Here you can have fun shuffling the cube and even solve it.

What does Quality Level mean?

The quality level indicates the aspect of the uploaded picture. The level of quality is expressed in percentage and the image considered to be having the lowest quality is displayed. 

Click on information icon  to show the percentage quality of an image.

What image formats can I upload on the website?

Digital iImages uploaded to our websites must be in BMP, GIF, JPEG and PNG formats.

What is the LR/HR button? Will it print in a low resolution if I choose LR?

Clicking on the  button will NOT affect the quality of the output of the image printed.  Editing is considered much faster when done under Low Resolution, especially for those with slower network connections. 

What is the required pictures size?

The max size for uploading a file is 5MB. But for a better printing quality, we recommend that images should be 1000 pixels wide. You can verify the quality of your uploaded images by clicking the information icon on the “quality level” found in the ORDER Menu of the DESIGN APP.

Why can’t I get my designs right? I see blank lines while designing my cube.

For technical reasons, blank lines and deformations may visually appear during the design. These anomalies that may appear in the web display will not in any way affect or appear on the cubes once they are printed.

Apple Safari

WebGL is not supported by default in Safari. If you wish to enable it:

  1. Open the Safari menu and select Preferences
  2. Click the Advanced tab in the Preferences window
  3. At the bottom of the window, check the "Show Develop menu in menu bar" checkbox
  4. Open the Develop menu in the menu bar and select "Enable WebGL"

Browser Extension

Try turning off your browser extensions. They often conflict with WebGL.

For example, we have found that the Chrome Disconnect extension can often cause problems.

How to test your browser

Test your browser:

If it says "Yay" then WebGL works on your computer. 

If it says "Nay" then your browser or computer does not support WebGL.

If in case it says "Yay" but the DYC App does not seem to work,

Internet Explorer

Only Internet Explorer version 11 supports WebGL. 

You need to get the Google Chrome or Firefox web browser.

Or you can try to install the Google Chrome Frame plug-in to be able to use the DYC App with Internet Explorer.

Mac OS 10.5.8

Mac OS 10.5.8 does not support WebGL. 

You need to upgrade to the latest Mac OS version.

Mozilla Firefox

If you use Firefox, but it does not appear to work, your graphics card might be on the FireFox Blacklist.

Smartphones and Tablets


WebGL is supported in Firefox (v.25.0).

On Chrome for Android, WebGL is disabled by default, but can be enabled by enabling the "Enable WebGL" flag

1. Navigate to chrome:\\flags

2. Tap Enable under “Enable WebGL” on the flags menu.

3. Tap the Relaunch button.


Unfortunately, WebGL is also not supported on the iPhone nor iPad.


The current Blackberry version 10 browser supports webGL

I don’t understand the different categories in the gallery: Design, Fun and Game

These categories were made to make it easier to classify the cubes:

Design: This category comprises all cubes that contain artworks, samples of which are:  The Louvre Cube and the Paris-New York Cube.

Fun:  These are photo cubes that emulate conviviality.  Samples of which are: Family cubes, friends cubes and all these sorts of cubes

Game: These are cubes for both amateurs and aficionados alike that pose challenge while developing skills in solving the cube.  They can be both traditional and conventional cubes. A good example of which is the United Square cube.  

Unclassified:  All customized cubes created by a user that are rendered public will be put under this category.

My private gallery:  The only Private classification among the 5 categories. Cube creations here are exclusive only to the user and will never be seen nor accessed in the public gallery unless made public by the user himself.

Can I cancel my order?

Try to Contact Us. It may be possible as long as the cube is not yet forwarded to production.  

Can I order someone else’s design?

Yes, if the cube design is visible in public. Choose the design that interests you, click “Customize this design” and a new copy of the design will be created.  This cube copy can now be customized and be considered as your own.  


How can I modify the number of cubes I want to buy or remove a cube from the cart?

Click on “cart” to review your order.

Here you can change the number of cubes you want to purchase.

On the left side, you’ll see a   icon that will clear or empty your cart. 

Remember that deleting items in your cart won’t affect your saved designs, keeping it intact in the gallery.

How do I change or add a design to my cube if it is already in the cart?

Delete the cube from the cart, and then go back to the design tool to validate the new modifications.

How do I pay?

Once your cube is added to the cart, click on checkout (buy). You have then  4 steps:

Step 1:  Cart Content: verify the cube in your cart.  Here you can modify the number of items you want.  You can also empty the cart should you change your mind.

Step 2:  Delivery information: fill-out properly all the required information (last name, first name, address, etc.)

Step 3: Shipping Option: choose the type of delivery.

Step 4: Payment: Select “Confirm and Pay” to be redirected to PayPal’s website. Carry out payment by logging in to your PayPal account or create a new account.

Step 5: Confirmation: payment made and transaction completed, you are now redirected back to DYC. You will receive a confirmation by email. 

I want to change the cube or a picture on an order I already validated, is it possible?

If the cube is not produced yet, it may be possible to do so. Try to Contact US.

My order is intended as a gift, is there an invoice included?

Proof of payment is sent to clients once transaction has been successfully confirmed and completed.  

All purchase invoice will be sent to your corresponding email account.

What are the payment options?

For easier, safer payment transactions, DYC prefers PayPal payment system.


About the delivery?

For worlwide deliveries:

Parcels are sent by International Priority Service, without any tracking number.

For deliveries in France:

The packages are sent by Colissimo, with corresponding tracking number. 

Can I return my order?

All sales consummated are final. We suggest you to verify the merchandise as soon as you receive it. If you observe damages to the packaging please inform the transporter immediately before accepting the merchandise. We highly recommend you to notify DYC Customer Service within 7 days from receipt of a damaged product so we can give you the proper instructions before initiating the return process yourself. Please be advised that unauthorized returns will not be accepted.

Can I track my order?

Please be informed that all packages, except for France, bears no tracking number.

The tracking system we were using does not provide us with satisfactory service, so DYC has opted not to use it anymore.   

How do I know that my order was sent?

Log-in to your account, then select My Orders that will appear on the drop down menu when you hover on your username located at the upper right-side of the website.  This menu should show the status SHIPPED

How long does it take for my order to arrive?

Depending on the location of your chosen delivery address. 

On average, it usually takes: 

2-3 working days for France

4-5 working days for EU countries,  and 

10-14 working days (excluding week-ends and public holidays) to other destinations, including the US, Eastern Europe, Middle-East, Asia and Pacific regions.

*For countries outside Europe, the number of days are variable depending on how your local Post Office and Customs Office treat incoming international parcels, upon which DYC has absolutely no control.

How much is the shipping cost?

DYC sends all purchases to all "valid" destinations worldwide.

DYC is committed to give its clients the best service possible so shipment is taken charge by the French Postal Service called "Paquet Prio" for Worlwide deliveries and Colissimo for French destinations.  

Shipping fees will be computed accordingly based on the quantity of the cubes and their corresponding weight and destination.  So shipping cost will not exactly be the same rate applicable for every purchase.
